The following Oklahoma rummy game glossary contains those Oklahoma rummy terms that are common wherever you might play. An understanding of them is crucial because the players will use these terms and if you do not properly understand them you will end up not understanding what is happening at the game table. Although you can always ask if you do not understand a term, it is better not to do so as players will see that you are a beginner and will adjust their play properly. You will get bullied and you will probably make mistakes while advanced players will take advantage of this fact. Here are the Oklahoma rummy game terms that are really common:

•    Baiting (or Angling) – a term used to describe discarding cards so that you will cause the opponent to discard cards that are a rank away.

•    Blitz (or shutout) – Winning a game without having the opponent score.

•    Blocking – Not discarding cards that can be useful for opponents towards forming melds.

•    Box – The score sheet will contain boxes, which are entries.

•    Box Score (line score) – The points that are received when a deal is won.

•    Catch – Receiving one hand or card.

•    Combination – 2 cards that can immediately become a meld when a suitable third card is used.

•    Deadwood – cards unmatched in a player’s hand

•    Gin Hand – a hand that contains zero deadwood

•    Game Bonus – Bonus that is awarded to who wins the game. In most cases it is 100 points although other variations do exist.

•    Go Gin – Laying down a Gin hand

•    Gut Card – Card that can complete a given broken sequence

•    Knock – You can end a game through a knock. You will be able to knock when the deadwood count in your hand is less or equal to the point value of the first card that was exposed.

•    Knock Cache – cards present in the hand of a player that will sum less or equal to a knock card.

•    Reducer – a card of low point value that you pick up in order to gain a smaller quantity of deadwood.

•    Safe Card (Safe Discard) – discard that the opponent will probably not take.

•    Speculate – discarding cards that could end as a part of the meld in the future.

•    Undercut – reducing the deadwood to less or equal to that of the knocker’s
